Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rude Boy, has unveiled tough conditions for artists seeking to sign with his record label, Fire Department Inc.
In a recent Instagram Live session, Okoye outlined his expectations for prospective signees, stating that they must meet specific requirements to be considered. Among these conditions are the provision of guarantees such as landed property and a contract co-signed by their parents. Additionally, Okoye emphasized a stringent rule: any artist caught smoking while under his label will face a hefty ₦10 million fine.
Paul Okoye, who launched Fire Department Inc. in 2019 after the split of the renowned group Psquare, has been vocal about the challenges and attitudes of some emerging artists. He expressed frustration with those who develop a sense of entitlement upon gaining fame and reject the need for a record label.
“I’ll tell you my demands now,” Okoye said. “You must bring landed properties, and your parents must sign the contract. If I catch you smoking as my artist, it will cost you ₦10 million. That’s why if you ask me when I’ll be signing new artists, I’ll tell you I don’t know.”
