Raymond Timothy, the councilorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Pari Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was tragically shot dead by gunmen, along with his brother, James Timothy.

The attack occurred on Sunday evening while the two were returning home from a political campaign event in Kizachi Village. Barnabas Chawai, a notable PDP member in the area, reported the incident and suggested that it may have been politically motivated, urging security forces to take swift action to apprehend those responsible.

Chawai emphasized the need for urgent measures to prevent further violence as the local government elections approach on October 19. He also highlighted the personal tragedy of the victims, noting that Raymond Timothy left behind three children and a pregnant wife expecting their fourth child.

John Wanneh, the Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, confirmed the timeline of events, stating they were together until around 6 PM, shortly before gunshots were heard in the area. Wanneh expressed uncertainty regarding the motive behind the attack, stating, “We cannot say who committed this crime or if it was politically connected.”

He also called on the government to improve infrastructure, noting that poor road conditions hinder emergency responses, especially with a river blocking access to the village.

As of now, the Kaduna State Police Command has not released any official statement regarding the incident.
