Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to take bold, united action to address the country’s worsening insecurity and economic challenges. In a recent statement, Obi highlighted the alarming rise in kidnappings, including the recent abduction of medical students in Benue State and a state commissioner and his wife in Edo State.
On Friday, over 20 medical and dental students, along with a house officer, were kidnapped by gunmen while en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students annual convention in Enugu. The ambush occurred around 5:30 PM in the Otukpo area. In another incident, Anambra State’s Commissioner for Youths Development, Patrick Aghamba, and his wife were reportedly abducted in Edo State while traveling to Abuja, with others in their convoy tragically killed.
Obi stressed the need for a national declaration of war on insecurity, economic hardship, and other pressing issues, arguing that Nigerians could not continue to live in fear and poverty. He called for a collective resolve to confront these challenges and work toward building a safer, more prosperous society for all citizens.
