Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called on protesters involved in the #endbadgovernance movement to halt their demonstrations, citing concerns over potential violence and disruptions by hoodlums from neighboring states.
In a statewide broadcast on Tuesday morning, Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the protests so far but warned of infiltration by individuals intent on causing chaos. He highlighted ongoing efforts by his administration to address local challenges, including investments in agriculture, public transportation, health, and education.
Mutfwang detailed several initiatives aimed at alleviating hardship, including the distribution of fertilizers, support for micro and small businesses through the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency, and efforts to improve food security and access to education and healthcare.
He urged protesters to suspend further demonstrations to allow for dialogue with youth leaders and to prevent the escalation of violence by criminals posing as protesters. The Governor cited intelligence indicating that the protests have been compromised by individuals intent on looting and committing other criminal acts, leading to the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
Mutfwang acknowledged the support of traditional, community, and religious leaders, as well as civil society organizations, in managing the situation and called for continued efforts to restore normalcy.
