A tragic incident unfolded late Friday night when gunmen attacked a mining site in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of four young individuals. The attack occurred around 9 PM in the Batura community, where the victims were reportedly working at the time.
Sabastine Magit, President of the Butura Youth Movement, confirmed the assault in a statement on Saturday, revealing that five others sustained injuries during the attack. The deceased have been identified as Bwefuk Musa (21), Klingshak Dickson (21), Promise Joshua (20), and Nyam Abaka (20).
According to Magit, this tragic event follows closely on the heels of another attack in Wumat village, where five family members, including a pregnant woman, were killed just days earlier. Magit’s statement detailed the circumstances surrounding the recent violence:
“In yet another unprovoked assault on members of the Butura community, armed terrorists speaking the Fulani dialect opened fire on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako in the Butura district of Bokkos Local Government Area on October 10. The attack occurred without any provocation, leading to the death of four innocent people and injuries to five others.”
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants executed a rapid operation on October 10 and fled the scene before military personnel stationed at a nearby checkpoint could respond. Tragically, the four individuals were killed instantly.
This recent attack adds to a disturbing trend of violence in the region, heightening fears among local communities about their safety and underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures.
