The Special Tactical Squad of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Yusuf, for attempting to smuggle an AK-47 rifle and four magazines hidden inside a sack of garri. The arrest took place during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
At a press briefing in Abuja, Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi revealed that Yusuf confessed to being instructed by notorious bandit Aminu Basullube to deliver the arms to Danum Madam Camp in Katsina State. Yusuf, however, claimed she was unaware of the gun’s presence in the sack, stating she was paid ₦130,000 for the delivery and assumed she was transporting millet.
Further investigations linked the arms trafficking to Musa Saidu, another suspect under investigation by the FID-STS. Saidu, who had been absent from his community for five years, was found to be involved in cattle rustling and was lavishly spending proceeds from these activities. He confessed to operating under a gang leader in Kaduna State and using the funds to purchase motorcycles and cattle.
Saidu admitted that his involvement in cattle rustling began as a form of retaliation after his cattle were stolen. Despite knowing the act was illegal, he continued until he made enough money to return to his village and spend his earnings.
