Dr. Chinyere Almona, Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), has criticized President Bola Tinubu for urging Nigerians to remain patient amid economic hardship while politicians enjoy lavish lifestyles. Speaking during an interview with Arise TV, Almona expressed frustration over the disconnect between the struggles faced by ordinary citizens, particularly manufacturers and entrepreneurs, and the comfort enjoyed by the political elite.
Almona noted that while Nigeria is filled with opportunities, the business environment remains unfavorable due to high inflation, excessive interest rates, corruption, and restrictive regulations. She highlighted that young people eager to start businesses are hindered by these challenges, with many factories closing down and exacerbating unemployment.
Referencing Tinubu’s recent Independence Day speech and the proposed 30-day National Youth Conference, Almona emphasized that without effective policies to improve the ease of doing business, such initiatives would have little impact. She stressed that leadership is the key issue, noting that while the private sector suffers and youths struggle, political circles continue to thrive without addressing the country’s core economic problems.
