President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha as the Director General of Nigeria’s National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), securing him a second five-year term. The reappointment, conveyed through a letter from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, highlights Mustapha’s achievements over the past four years.
Effective from October 31, 2024, Mustapha’s new term aligns with the National Biotechnology Development Agency Act, 2022. Experts see this move as a mark of confidence in his leadership, anticipating further growth in biotechnology’s role in food security, pharmaceuticals, and Nigeria’s place in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
With an academic background in Bioinorganic Chemistry, Prof. Mustapha hails from Dambatta Local Government Area in Kano State and is expected to continue advancing biotechnology in ways that benefit Nigeria’s development.
