Protesters from Borno South took to the streets of Abuja today, urging the Senate to reinstate Mohammed Ali Ndume as Chief Whip. Ndume, representing Borno South senatorial district, was removed from his position following his critical remarks towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership had sent a letter to the Senate requesting his ouster. Consequently, Ndume also lost his role as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, with Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North) appointed as the new Chief Whip.
The Borno South Development Association led the protest at Unity Fountain, petitioning Senate President Godswill Akpabio to restore Ndume. Mohammed Ibrahim Biu, the protest leader, described Ndume as an active and effective Senator who should not be punished for his honest opinions.
Biu argued that Ndume’s removal was detrimental not only to Borno South but to Nigeria as a whole, emphasizing the need for justice to be served.
