Russia announced that it successfully thwarted a nighttime assault involving 12 US-made ATACMS missiles targeting the Crimea bridge, a key infrastructure linking Kerch in Crimea with Russia’s Krasnodar region. The bridge, constructed under President Vladimir Putin’s orders following Moscow’s annexation of Crimea, was defended by Russian air defenses, which managed to destroy all incoming missiles.
The attack occurred after Ukraine launched a significant offensive on the Russian border region of Kursk, capturing multiple settlements. This marked one of the most notable cross-border incursions since World War II. The Kremlin has previously condemned similar attacks and warned of repercussions, including a recent incident in Sevastopol where a Ukrainian missile strike resulted in casualties.
In related news, Russia’s defense ministry also reported that five naval drones headed for Crimea were destroyed by helicopters in the Black Sea.
