In a significant operation, security forces have successfully eliminated Kachalla Sani Black, a prominent bandit leader and rival of the notorious Bello Turji, in Zamfara State. The ambush took place in Magama Mai Rake within the Maru Local Government Area, where Sani Black and two of his sons were killed.
The vigilante group involved in the operation also seized two AK-47 rifles, an undisclosed amount of cash, and a PKT machine gun. Sani Black, who was a major threat in the Chabi and Dan Sadau areas of Maru, was known for terrorizing communities across Northern Zamfara, with his gang also conducting attacks in Kaduna, Niger, and Kebbi States.
Previously, Sani Black had been one of the most feared bandit leaders in the region, commanding over 150 armed followers and orchestrating numerous assaults on local populations in Maru, Gusau, and Tsafe. He was also implicated in heinous acts, including training his men for abductions and sexual violence.
In a separate development, students and staff of the Federal University Gusau, who were abducted in February during a raid, have regained their freedom. After seven months in captivity, their release was confirmed by security analyst Zagazola Makama via social media, marking a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the region.
