The Senate has summoned the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to address the worsening condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road. The decision was made on October 2, following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North).

Senator Abdulfatai emphasized the critical importance of the road, which connects the South and North of Nigeria, and highlighted the severe hardships travelers face due to its deplorable state, including frequent accidents and traffic jams. Despite over a decade of federal repair efforts, the road remains dangerous and poorly maintained.

The Senate unanimously supported the motion and directed Minister Umahi to appear before the Committee on Works to explain the delays in completing the road’s rehabilitation. Senate President Godswill Akpabio has tasked the committee with reporting back within three weeks.
