Heavy flooding has devastated parts of the University of Ibadan, resulting in the destruction of students’ belongings, including books, foodstuffs, and valuable items. The flooding, which occurred on Friday, caused significant damage, with losses estimated to be in the millions of naira.

According to reports, some of the worst-hit areas were the student hostels. Investigations revealed that Awo Hostel was particularly affected, with about 16 rooms on the underground level completely submerged. Students reported that their property was seen floating in water, leaving many distressed.

One anonymous student shared, “The flood submerged the underground rooms in Awo Hostel, and many of us lost important items, including documents and food.”

The flooding took over the students’ rooms, toilets, kitchens, and hostel entrances, leaving many without essential supplies as examinations continue.
