Controversial media personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after being released on bail from police custody.
Darlington was initially arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja following a defamation and cyberstalking complaint lodged by Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy. The arrest was confirmed by human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who revealed that Darlington had met the bail conditions set by the police in Abuja, leading to his release on Tuesday evening.
In a post shared on his X account, Adeyanju expressed gratitude to those who contributed to Darlington’s release and acknowledged the professionalism of the police in the IRT department. He also recognized the efforts of popular activist Omoyele Sowore and legal counsel Stan Alieke in facilitating the media personality’s release.
The incident followed a viral video in which Darlington had taunted Burna Boy, questioning his Grammy win for the album Twice As Tall and making comments about the artist’s connection to US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently facing legal troubles.
This situation has attracted significant public attention, with supporters of both Darlington and Burna Boy weighing in on the ongoing dispute.
