President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the violence that erupted in Rivers State following the Local Government Area elections held on Saturday. After Governor Sim Fubara swore in the newly elected council chairmen on Sunday, hoodlums attacked several LGA secretariats on Monday, preventing the officials from assuming their duties.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over reports of arson and explosions. He urged Governor Fubara, political leaders, and their supporters to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law.
Tinubu directed the police to restore order and ensure the safety of public institutions, emphasizing that violence and vandalism have no place in a democracy. He reminded political actors that any election disputes should be resolved through the judiciary.
