The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has granted approval for a private airstrip at Canaanland, the headquarters of the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) in Ota, Ogun State. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed the approval.
Bishop David Oyedepo, the church’s founder, shared the news with his congregation during a recent thanksgiving event, known as the Tehillah Night Special Edition, held at the Covenant University Chapel. This occasion also served to celebrate Oyedepo’s 70th birthday, which took place in September.
Expressing his joy, Oyedepo highlighted that the new airstrip would significantly improve his travel logistics, allowing him to avoid the need for helicopter flights to the nearest airport. He mentioned that the airstrip would also accommodate planes owned by church members, providing them with dedicated landing and parking facilities.
Tunde Moshood, the media aide to the aviation minister, reaffirmed the approval, stating, “Yes, the minister approved the airstrip. It is a private airstrip, and the minister granted the approval.”
The establishment of the airstrip is expected to enhance transportation for worshippers and visitors, particularly during major church events that draw large crowds from around the world.
