President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a private meeting with Traditional Rulers at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja. This closed-door session marks the second such meeting of the day for the President, following his earlier discussions with the Progressive Governors Forum.
Attending the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, key members of the President’s cabinet, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, NNPCL CEO Mele Kyar, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, and Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.
Notable traditional rulers present include Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Abubakar III, Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and Dein of Agbor His Royal Majesty Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborokuzi I.
The meeting follows the cancellation of the National Economic Council session scheduled for Thursday afternoon and comes on the heels of a Wednesday evening gathering of the Nigeria Governors Forum. Sources suggest the discussions may be related to addressing concerns about the country’s economic challenges and planned protests against the current administration.
Also in attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu. Governors including AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State are also participating.
