President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Saturday, July 20, for Accra, Ghana, where he will participate in the Sixth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU) and Regional Economic Communities (RECs). This was announced in a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will address the meeting on regional integration progress across Africa, highlighting achievements and challenges since the last gathering in Nairobi, Kenya, in July 2023.
The agenda will feature the presentation of the ‘2024 Report on the State of the Community’ by President Tinubu, focusing on peace, security, governance, economic integration, and social development, aligned with the AU’s theme for 2024: ‘Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century.’
Established in 2017, the Mid-Year Coordination Meeting serves as a crucial platform for aligning AU and REC efforts towards continental integration, superseding previous summits held in June and July.
President Tinubu, accompanied by senior government officials, is expected to contribute to discussions on enhancing early warning systems and fostering cooperation among regional communities to expedite integration. The summit will culminate in the adoption of a joint declaration.
Upon conclusion of the meeting, President Tinubu will return to Nigeria.
