Naja’atu Salisu, a 300-level Computer Science student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, was confirmed dead after being found unconscious in a hostel bathroom on Friday morning.
Naja’atu entered the bathroom in the female hostel at the Gubi campus to prepare for lectures but never made it out. “She had done every routine in preparation for the morning class before going into the bathroom. She brought the clothes she planned to wear to class and kept them on the side of her bed,” said her roommate.
ATBU spokesperson Zailani Bappa confirmed the incident, explaining that Naja’atu was rushed to the university’s clinic for medical attention. However, medical personnel were unable to find a vein in her body. “Having noticed this, Naja’atu was rushed to the Trauma Centre of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor,” he noted.
Naja’atu has been buried according to Islamic rites.
The ATBU Students Union Government (SUG) expressed their condolences in a message signed by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Danladi Zakiru. They described Naja’atu as a hardworking student who will be greatly missed by the student community.
