Investigative journalist David Hundeyin recently revealed that he was offered N800,000 by an international NGO, Dialogue Earth, to write a negative article about the Dangote Refinery under the guise of environmental concerns. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Hundeyin explained how he struggled with the decision to go public but ultimately decided to expose the bribe offer to highlight the hidden agendas of foreign actors aiming to maintain energy poverty in Nigeria and West Africa.
Hundeyin shared that Dialogue Earth, formerly known as China Dialogue Trust, approached him to craft an article critical of the Dangote Refinery, focusing on supposed environmental issues. Suspecting the true intention behind the offer, Hundeyin accepted the proposal to gather evidence, which he later shared on social media.
Speaking on Arise Television, Hundeyin emphasized the importance of public exposure as a tool against secretive foreign interests exploiting Africa’s energy challenges. He warned that there is an ongoing narrative war, where foreign entities use African voices to push their agenda, keeping the continent in a state of energy poverty despite its vast resources.
Hundeyin’s decision to go public was driven by a desire to educate the public about these hidden forces rather than expecting any action from the government. He believes that only public awareness and action can counter these foreign interests that threaten Nigeria’s progress.
