After enduring seven months in captivity, students and staff of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, have been freed from the bandits who abducted them earlier this year. The individuals were kidnapped in February 2024 during a raid in the Gusau area.
The release of the hostages was confirmed by Zagazola Makama, a renowned security analyst, through a post on social media. Although the exact details surrounding their release remain unclear, it has been reported that security forces played a crucial role in securing their freedom.
The news comes as a huge relief to families and the academic community, who have been anxiously waiting for the safe return of their loved ones. According to Zagazola, “After spending an extended period in captivity, it has been confirmed that all the abducted individuals have returned in good health.”
The abduction occurred in September 2023 when a large group of bandits, reportedly numbering in the hundreds, attacked the university, particularly targeting students’ dormitories in Sabon Gida village. Most of the abductees were women, and their ordeal has now come to an end with their safe return.
