Delta Airlines is still grappling with the aftermath of a global IT glitch that occurred on Friday, resulting in the cancellation of an additional 1,555 flights. While other airlines have mostly recovered, Delta has yet to announce when normal operations will resume, having also cancelled 1,250 flights on Sunday and another 305 flights on Monday.
Since last Friday, Delta has cancelled a total of 3,500 flights due to the widespread technology failure.
According to the Financial Times, thousands of Delta passengers across the United States remain stranded. Some have resorted to renting cars for long-distance travel, while others may have to wait days for new flights or cancel their trips entirely.
The Atlanta-based airline, which has cancelled a third of its schedule and delayed 1,700 flights, equivalent to 44 percent, is dealing with operational challenges after the outage disrupted its crew tracking system, as reported by FlightAware.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian noted that the issue, which affected its Microsoft Windows systems, has severely impacted a critical application. Despite ongoing efforts, the airline has not provided a clear timeline for the resumption of normal operations, with over 5,000 flights cancelled since the glitch occurred.
