Chelsea’s proposed £34.5m transfer for Atletico Madrid forward Samuel Omorodion has collapsed due to contractual issues. This setback has led to uncertainty regarding the futures of Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez.
With the Omorodion deal off, both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are now considering alternative options, including a potential return of Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge. Felix, who was on loan with Chelsea in 2023, could be brought back to fill the gap left by the failed transfer.
Despite the Omorodion fallout, Manchester City remains hopeful about Julian Alvarez’s potential move to Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club had agreed to a significant £82m deal for the Argentine international, which would represent a major profit for City. According to Sky Sports, Manchester City is still optimistic about finalizing the Alvarez transfer, which would involve £64m upfront and an additional £17m in potential add-ons.
Alvarez has been a key player for City, with 103 appearances and 36 goals to his name, and has won several major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Chelsea’s transfer activities continue as they have already signed players such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, and Marc Guiu during this window. However, Gallagher’s future remains unresolved, with the midfielder having undergone part of his medical with Atletico Madrid last week but facing difficulties in contract negotiations with Chelsea.
In another development, Chelsea striker Armando Broja is reportedly “ready to move” to Stuttgart, with initial discussions underway. Broja has also drawn interest from Premier League clubs, including Everton and Southampton.
The transfer window is set to close on August 30, and clubs are rushing to finalize their deals.
