The Take It Back Movement (TIB), organizers of the upcoming October 1 protest, have proposed a virtual meeting with the Lagos State Police Command, citing logistical challenges. The group’s legal representatives, Inibehe Effiong Chambers, sent a letter to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department, Jaiyeoba Joseph, on Wednesday, explaining that several key members are currently outside Lagos and unable to attend a physical meeting.
The police had previously invited TIB leaders, including National Coordinator Sanyaolu Juwon, to meet with the new Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, to discuss “issues of national interest,” including the planned October 1 protest. Concerns have arisen within the movement, as some members fear the invitation could be a trap for arrests.
However, Lagos State police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, assured that the meeting would be friendly, with no intentions to detain anyone.
The TIB suggested that a virtual meeting would allow all necessary participants to contribute remotely and proposed early October as a rescheduled date if a physical meeting is deemed essential. The protest, titled ‘FearlessInOctober,’ will focus on issues such as economic hardship, inflation, and fuel scarcity.
