Russia announced on Saturday that its forces have captured the village of Zoryane in eastern Ukraine, advancing its position towards the industrial hub of Kurakhove. The village’s capture brings Russian troops just a few kilometers from the center of Kurakhove, a strategic target in the region.
Kurakhove, located west of Russian-controlled Donetsk, had a population of around 20,000 before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The town is significant due to its industrial and logistical importance, lying south of the transportation hub of Pokrovsk.
In addition to the offensive near Kurakhove, Russian forces have also intensified their attacks in the southern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, further escalating the conflict.
