A prominent Kano-based lawyer, Shuiabu Gama, has sounded the alarm over a potential security crisis in Kano State, warning that former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s attempt to create a parallel Hisbah force is a recipe for disaster.
In a statement, Gama expressed deep concern over Ganduje’s intentions, describing them as “deeply suspicious, self-serving, and dangerously political”. He drew parallels between the proposed Hisbah force and the notorious political thug camps formed in the mid-2000s, which have evolved into fearless and emboldened networks that challenge state authority and undermine public safety.
“Why would HE Abdullahi Umar Ganduje now attempt to create a shadow Hisbah?” Gama asked. “It’s plain that his intent is deeply suspicious, self-serving, and dangerously political.”
Gama warned that the creation of a parallel Hisbah force would be a catastrophic development, leading to increased insecurity, divided loyalties, and clashes with existing security institutions. He urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene, emphasizing that endangering Kano’s peace is utterly unacceptable.
The lawyer’s warning has sparked intense debate and concern among Nigerians, with many calling on the government to take immediate action to prevent the creation of a private militia that could further destabilize the region.
