Dr. Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the eldest daughter of President Bola Tinubu, has been inducted as an Associate Member of the Professional Statisticians’ Society of Nigeria (PSSN) for her significant contributions to the promotion of statistical data for national development.
The induction ceremony took place during the 8th International Conference of PSSN at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, on Friday. PSSN President, Professor Waheed Yahya, remarked that the inductees were recognized for their efforts in advancing the field of statistics through their professional endeavors.
Professor Yahya highlighted Dr. Tinubu-Ojo’s advocacy for women marketers in Nigeria, which has greatly benefited entrepreneurial women. He also commended her philanthropic efforts, noting her initiative to provide scholarships for over 10,000 children of traders and underprivileged Nigerians, thus promoting educational equality.
Speaking on behalf of the inductees, APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Basiru, emphasized the need to depoliticize data collection in Nigeria to enable leaders to make informed, data-driven decisions. He called on PSSN to engage in advocacy to support timely and accurate national data.
In a goodwill message, President-General of the Yoruba Community in Bauchi State, Special Apostle Segun Awofadeji, praised the conference theme, “Statistics: The Key to Unlocking Nigeria’s Economic Potentials,” as relevant and timely. He expressed hope that the conference would yield strategies to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential.
Awofadeji also highlighted the harmonious relationship between the Yoruba community and the host communities in Bauchi State under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdukadir Mohammed, noting the peaceful coexistence and mutual respect fostered by his administration.
